I managed to pack the sandals and the fleece...although I felt safer with no pictorial evidence of me using the fleece, so no photographs were taken of me in that.
It's funny. I come online to speak to people I've not spoken to in a week an no-one seems to be online. If I was still paranoid, I would say that it's a massive conspiracy...but I'm not paranoid, so I shan't say that.
All in all it was a good week. Going cold turkey from the 'net was surprisingly very easy. I really only got the twitches on the first two evenings, but after that I was even given the opportunity of going to a place with WiFi and I turned it down. I just needed...away, from all of what happens here. The drama and the bitching and the helpless feeling I get. It's enough to depress even the most optimistic of people sometimes. But still, I cleared my head, got things into perspective, and although within half an hour of me being online again my good mood has come down slightly...I'm relaxed and content. Wonderful feeling.
So, what did I do on my week away from everything?
- Did a lot of walking
- I attended a Christian 'Family Fun Day' and took part in a survey/interview thing
- Learnt how to make sponge cakes
- Played Chess
- Did a lot of walking
- Bought an Anne McCaffrey book
- Read the said McCaffrey book as well as one and a half more novels
- Got two bookshops to agree to be advertised on I.Q.
- Did a lot of walking
- Went to the arcades and got a few top scores
- Sang Karaoke ("Moondance" by Van Morrison)
- Did some writing for my website/emails/other
So as you can see, dear reader, as well as taking the time to clear my head, I managed to do quite a lot of other things to keep myself distracted. The Isle of Wight itself seems to be just a mass of large hills...and guess what twerp forgot to take a certain walking stick on holiday with her? Ah well. On the Thursday my knee was so bad I ended up being housebound (even the stairs proved a nuisance) but apart from that my limbs behaved themselves.
((I also demonstrated a large about of willpower when I went to the Needles at Alum bay. Lighthouses everywhere and I didn't so much as buy a fridge magnet. I'm so proud of myself.))
I shan't bore you, dear reader, with what things I thought about whilst I was there on that small Island. No doubt they will surface and be written here eventually. The ocean really gets the mind ebbing and flowing along with it...especially late at night when it's peaceful and you're the only person on the beach for miles in each direction. Barefoot walks across the damp sand at midnight...there's no other feeling of calm clarity quite like it, I found. And that clarity and perspective, dearest reader...Is what I was looking for there.Labels: Beach, Holiday, Lighthouse, Ocean, Walking
