Considering I didn't so much as turn my computer on yesterday, it was the best time I've had in a rather long time.
I woke up at around 8am or so in order to get ready and have a shower and whatnot. That in itself in an achievement. (Getting up at that time, not having a shower). In any case, I managed to get back to Derby about half an hour earlier than I'd anticipated, so I went to see Anthony at Mondas. I'd got an email the day before saying that he'd picked up a copy of the DragonFlight graphic novel for me...and since my student loan had arrived I bought it for myself. I caught the bus home and left a 'Came & Went, back around 5:30 ish' note on the side before going back into town (minus my bag and such) to meet Richard for a drink. (And on this occasion, by 'drink' I mean a J20). We had lunch and ended up wandering over to the newly opened 'Quad' centre to look at the gallery there before going to play pool at Riley's, which was a nice change of something to do. Richard and I got on really well again, keeping the conversation going and whatnot.
I must admit I didn't get chance to sit around and chat to my grandparents as much as I would have liked to do when I got home that evening. As soon as we'd had dinner, Grandad drove me to Burton to go and see Mike Freeman and Tania Opland. He left me at the place they were performing at, although luckily I spotted someone I knew from the MoM forum; P'ter. The two of us were the only ones at the folk club who weren't regulars, but the others made us feel welcome, which was nice.
Whilst we were waiting for the session to begin, Mike and Tania spotted P'ters McCaffrey T-shirt and came over to chat to us. I got them to sign my '40 years of Pern' book as well as my CD. They truly were fantastic people. Tania's talent was absolutely jawdropping. (literally). Not only does she have a wonderful voice, but the skill with which she played her instruments (plural) was amazing. It isn't something I would have missed for anything.
They also played 'Nonsuch' from the MHoP album, as well as 'You picked a fine time to leave me, you seal' since P'ter and I were there.
Needless to say I'll be browsing their website and ordering a CD from them.Labels: Folk, MoM, Music, Pern, Pool
