Well...what can I say about the past week or so? It always seems when I begin to bounce with enthusiasm and dare life to take its best shot...life steps up and invariably knocks me on my ass. This week the knockdown wasn't a playful shove, or even an Ali style 'and stay down' punch. It was more a mixture of being run over by a rocket powered train with a steamroller accessory on the front.
The house at Uni got broken into on Monday, and Re-Al's laptop was stolen. When I say 'broken into', I mean it in rather a loose sense, admittedly. There was no actual sign of break-in, but the police were called and we got the keys for the second lock, as well as the bolt being fitted and a chain being installed. For some reason I was rather calm about the whole affair, but the other two got a little uptight, and to be honest a couple of days ago you could cut the tension in the air with just a butterknife.
The break-in came at the same time as a great deal of snow. Y'know, that's something that amuses me and horrifies me about the English at the same time. The fact that when we get simply 3 or 4 inches of snow...the whole country stops for a day. Some parts of America have close to six feet of snow, and the people and systems there simply roll their eyes at the cold but then carry on as entirely normal.
Thursday brought with it a new irritation. I awoke to find myself missing half a front tooth. Yes, my cap once again came off after not having been attached a year. That's the reason for the fact that as I write this blog, I'm currently at home lying on my bed, pending me going to the dentist to get it sorted out on Monday. (At the horror of my bank account, no doubt).
Add all of these together with the fact that my dad hasn't been too well recently - he's now visited by two carers a day instead of one, his speech is slightly worse as is his balance - and the fact that the amount of reading I have to do per week borders on the obscene (even though somehow I'm actually manage to stay on top of all that), then it hasn't really made for a very nice week for me. No matter though, all will be well.
Oh, and I finally got my beef jerky, as well as the box Saki sent over as my Christmas present. I have an awesome fleece blanket that has '*heart* Your Person' on it, which made me smile...even though the static electricity meant I couldn't touch anything metal first thing this morning...and a stress ball that I've named Hank and has already been deemed as current favourite inanimate object.
